Sapele
The heartwood of this exotic and imported hardwood is red to dark reddish-brown,
usually with a purple cast. On quartered surfaces the wood presents a well defined
ribbon striped figure. The grain is interlocked or wavy and the texture is fine. The
lumber has a cedar like aromatic odor when cut. These boards enjoy a high
golden luster. Sapele is stronger that African or American Mahogany and it’s also
stronger than Red Oak.
Tulipwood
Wenge
Wenge is an exotic and imported hardwood that has heartwood that is dark brown
with very close, fine, almost black veins. The texture is coarse and the grain is
straight to slightly wavy
Yellowheart
This beautiful exotic and imported hardwood is a bright yellow color, darkening
only a little on exposure to sunlight. There is a little differentiation between
heartwood and sapwood, or between spring and summer growth rings. The color
is very consistent across the wood. It is usually straight grained and uniform. It
dries relatively easily with limited checking and cracking.
Zebrawood
This exotic and imported hardwood is pale golden brown to pinkish-brown with
pronounced dark brown streaks giving the quartered surfaces a zebra-stripe
appearance. The grain in interlocked. This wood has a coarse texture and
lustrous surface. Zebrawood is heavy, hard and strong.
